About us

Childline Kenya is a National Non-Governmental Organization working to promote child rights and a culture of child protection in Kenya.

The organization achieves this through the following activities;
• Management of a National Child helpline 116 which is a 24 hours national and emergency helpline, for children in difficult circumstances or those who simply need somebody to talk to
• Public education programs on child rights and child protection through community awareness, media events, school and community outreach sessions, parenting education,
• Involvement in research, advocacy and documentation.

So far the helpline remains as the core programme, which anchors all the others. The helpline is also a joint programme between Childline Kenya and the Government of Kenya through the Department of Children Services in the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development. The national helpline is bridging a gap that has existed over time in the provision of multiple services to abused children and those in need of care and protection.

By defining the kind of services different children require, identifying partners and developing a referral system to access those services in a timely manner and at minimal costs, Childline Kenya is giving new meaning to child protection services in Kenya. It is a demand driven service that has potential to synergize action by all partners.

Strategic goals
1. Strengthening the national helpline 116 in order to facilitate effective child protection services.
2. Build alliances, networks and partnerships to enhance child protection practices in Kenya
3. Promote child rights and child participation
4. Research, advocacy and policy influencing for child protection
5. Institutional development and growth of Childline Kenya as a recognized authority on child protection
