Each year Childline Kenya holds a child safety conference with children drawn from across the country to discuss issues that affect their safety and present the resolutions to the relevant stakeholders. The last child safety conference was held in December 2010 with Her Excellency Mrs. Pauline Musyoka as the Chief Guest. In attendance were also stakeholders from the Communications Commission of Kenya, Teachers Service Commission, Department of Children Services, Plan International, SOS Children Villages and the Kenya Alliance for the Advancement of Children.

The children deliberated on Child Safety and came up with recommendations to the Government, the family, the community in general and fellow children. The government was tasked to be at the fore front in promoting child safety and promote the child helpline as a tool for child protection and create children desks in all the government protection agencies.

The children recommended that parents should take the full responsibility of their children by being active in their social lives and to take any abuse complaints from children seriously. Parents were also tasked to monitor their children’s internet usage and discourage excessive use of the same and the media to be involved in the educating the society on the risks of technology.Teachers should always practice professionalism at all times with their students and avoiding engaging in personal matters with them.

The next child safety conference will be held in December 2011.

Childline Kenya invests a lot in the publicity of the programs and services offered. On 16th September 2010, together with other stakeholders in the children sector, CLK published an article in the daily nation in support of boy child and girl child education.

Childline Kenya partnered with World Vision Kenya in August 2010 to host the Children Voices Conference in the North Rift Region. The conference was attended by 287 children from the North Rift districts. The theme of the conference was “We are Leaders too, keep us safe, be our role models”. The children got the opportunity to discuss issues that affect their community which include, sexual abuse, early marriage, inter communal wars.
